COURSE DESCRIPTION

This is the capstone course for undergraduate students. It provides the student with an opportunity to develop strategic thinking and management skills. Students will learn the process of strategic analysis, which is vital in both decision making and planning. It requires them to consider the total organization and to understand the relationships and interdependencies that exist between the major functional units. Students learn that they must also understand significant factors in the internal and external environments of an organization in order to develop positioning/reposition strategies that will create the “best fit” between the internal and external environments. This is the essence of strategic management: the development of options in order to gain and maintain a sustained competitive advantage. The learning of the process enables the student to emerge and develop as a strategic thinker and manager, both critical skills, regardless of the environment, type or size of the organization.
